Just because she comes home from the hospital in a pink blanket doesn’t mean every girl’s nursery has to be pink. When choosing paint color for a girl’s room, these days the sky’s the limit. Moms (and Dads) should ask themselves what colors they’re most drawn to and use that favorite as their guide. The built-in color palettes in crib linens provide an excellent jumping-off point to guide parents through the process of choosing paint colors for their nursery.My own children are babies no more (they’re in elementary school now), but I enjoyed decorating both a girl’s and boy’s nursery when they were little. The only baby in my life right now is little Gigi, and she’s the daughter of one of my best friends. Gigi’s nursery is filled with all the essentials for a wee one and is styled in a classic color palette of various pinks, paired with white and brown.
The design began with a soft neutral wall paint color in a pale shade of tan. This mom chose a glider upholstered in pale cream to contrast with the chair’s rich, dark wood, where they spend many hours reading and rocking to sleep.

You’ll notice little bits of green appear in the details too, from the trim on the pillow to the background color in the baby’s quilt. White is always a fresh choice, and these sheer curtains with hot pink mini polka dots help lighten the space. The crib demonstrates a color combination that never fails — rich, dark wood paired with sweet pink.Choosing dark wood instead of white for the crib helps ground the space and balance out the pastels and whites that also appear in the room. Even the “lovies” in the crib play well with the neutral tan on the walls and bits of pink and green scattered throughout the space.

Choosing color is fun, just as long as the baby’s nursery includes the essentials — a crib, some storage, a place to change diapers, store books, and other necessities. Yellow and gray always play well together. Imagine gray walls, a white crib, and fresh yellow accents scattered throughout — perhaps the changing table or rocker/glider in a bright yellow hue too.The "Wow" factor in this nursery comes from the mom’s choice to add a whimsical touch above the crib in the form of suspended paper pom-poms and lanterns. Turquoise and lime green are a modern combination and natural wood is resurging in popularity. Green walls with a natural wood crib and white accents, paired with pops of vivid blue or bright orange would make for one happy nursery.

Pink can play a subtle roll or never appear at all in a baby girl’s room.
